'Scholarships For Military Children' Program Underway

Winter 2008-09

“What would you place inside a time capsule to help people in the next century understand military life today?”

Eligible students who submit an essay responding to this question may apply for a college scholarship through the 2009 Scholarships for Military Children program. Applications are available through Feb. 18, 2009, at commissaries worldwide and online through a link at www.commissaries.com and directly at www.militaryscholar.org.

Each year, the program awards $1,500 scholarships to accomplished children of military families and has presented more than $6.4 million in scholarships to at least 4,000 students since it began in 2001. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every commissary location with qualified applicants.

Unmarried dependents under age 23 of active-duty, Reserve/Guard and retired servicemembers or survivors of members who died while on active duty may apply. Applicants should ensure that they, as well as their sponsor, are enrolled in the DEERS database and have a current ID card.
