List Spotlights Military-Friendly Employers

Spring 2009

Corporate America is striving to acquire military talent, according to G.I. Jobs’ annual list recognizing the nation’s “Top 50 Military-Friendly Employers” among large companies. Rankings are based on criteria such as assets dedicated to military hiring, Reserve/Guard policies and veterans’ training programs.

Auto battery and parts manufacturer Johnson Controls headed the newest rankings, followed by BNSF Railway and Union Pacific. Seven firms – American Electric Power, Brink’s, General Electric, Home Depot, Merrill Lynch, Sprint Nextel and USAA – have earned a spot on the list in all six years of its existence. The full list may be viewed at www.gijobs.com/top50pr.

The military produces nearly 400,000 new civilian workers each year. Aside from college campuses, which generate more than one million workers annually, the military is the country’s largest source of renewable, skilled talent.

“This isn’t about charity or patriotism. It’s about good business,” according to G.I. Jobs’ Rich McCormack. “The companies on our list understand that.”
