Military Saves Week, Coming To A Base Near You

Each service branch is gearing up for Military Saves Week 2009, coming Feb. 22 through Mar. 1. The Navy, for example, says it wants to boost participation for the one-week event by at least 20 percent from last year’s 45,000 sailors and family members.
Especially urgent in light of today’s economic challenges, Military Saves Week is an opportunity to encourage, motivate and educate servicemembers and families to increase personal savings, reduce debt and develop financial fitness habits that lead to improved personal financial stability – and, ultimately, to mission readiness.
In its effort to raise awareness of prudent saving behaviors all year long, the Military Saves campaign highlights a unique focus every three months: saving and investing during the first quarter, military youth in the second quarter, debt reduction in the third, and retirement planning to conclude the year.
