Important Paperwork At Moving Time
Summer 2004
Don’t get caught without the right paperwork at moving time!
When a move is around the corner, gather all necessary records. Make certain to know which military papers to take along and which will be forwarded to the next duty station. Include car information: title, registration, lease agreements, driver’s license and insurance. Take any marriage license or divorce decree, birth certificates, adoption papers, medical and dental files, and pet paperwork. Remember school records and diplomas. Include bank account and tax records, and information on any public assistance received. Have a copy of all wills and powers of attorney, but leave the originals with the executor or a trusted friend.
Keep all receipts related to the move, and put them in a separate file. They’ll be needed to qualify for any reimbursements from the military. Expenses that don’t qualify for reimbursement may qualify as tax deductions.
